H.M. Borges was founded in 1877 by Henrique Menezes Borges, who dedicated his entire life to the search for a selection of wines produced on the island of Madeira, with the aim of aging them.
Initially, H.M. Borges was not located in its current building; it was situated more centrally in Funchal, close to the iconic “Mercado dos Lavradores”. This location did not, however, have the necessary facilities to take on the role of an exporter.
In 1924, the move to the current facilities finally took place, and it was then that the company transitioned into being a producer and exporter of Madeira Wine.

This facility, which initially operated as a cereal milling factory, was adapted to the wine sector, while always maintaining the original architectural features of the building.

It is currently managed by the fourth generation of the family.
H.M.
